Plymouth couple married in ancient Celtic rite with Medieval traditions
Happy couple Jez Menis and Kate Deler literally tied the knot when they married in a Medieval-themed wedding this weekend.
Against a beautiful backdrop at Terawhiti Farm at Thurlestone, near Kingsbridge, the couple, who come from Plymouth, undertook a special "hand-fasting" ceremony, which involves the binding of the bride and bridegroom's hand with a cord or ribbon.

The ancient Celtic rite wasn't the only unusual part of the day where a wedding breakfast and disco was replaced by feasting, storytelling and even a small sword-fighting tournament.
Two years ago Mr Menis, who makes armour and weapons for historical re-enactors, famously abseiled 220ft down Canonteign Falls in the Teign Valley, near Exeter, in a full suit of armour that he had made himself, to raise money for charity.

“I hope the landowner didn't insist on taking up his medieval right to have the first go at the bride. That's the sort of thing that ruins the honeymoon.”
