POLICE are turning to readers of the West Briton for help in identifying these people in their attempts to crack a series of unsolved crimes.

The CCTV images have been released of those who officers want to question in relation to outstanding crimes in the Truro area - from burglaries and shop thefts to the knife-point robbery of an elderly jeweller.

Inspector Mark Richards said the people pictured were not already known to his force.

Renewing appeals for information from local people in relation to seven crimes, he said: "These CCTV images may hold the key to cracking these cases.

"CCTV is a fantastic tool, whether it's a system on the streets on in shops themselves.

"The quality of some of the images is some of the best evidence you can get."

He said any information passed to the police would be treated in "complete and utter confidence".

"We shouldn't even have to take a statement from an individual identifying the people in the picture or use them in court proceedings because the CCTV image in itself is enough.

"We're very keen to get these people identified, especially the man we want to speak to in relation to the robbery."

Jewellery shop owner Frank Dawe, 72, was attacked by a knife-wielding robber while he worked in his Pydar Mews store, Wentworths, on December 3.

The 6ft 2in culprit brandishing a 4in blade got away with about £10,000 worth of jewellery in the lunchtime crime.

Police are keen to speak to the man wearing a hat and scarf, captured on CCTV, in relation to the attack.

Mr Richards said: "The other crimes might be considered less serious offences but they are linked to crimes we are still investigating.

"But they are thefts from businesses and individuals and people should not be able to get away with committing crime."

Anyone who can identify any of the people pictured or who knows the whereabouts of the expensive bracelet stolen from a St Mawes home, should contact the police on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting the correlating crime reference number.
