Police inquiry into care home abuse claims
A police investigation has been launched after several staff were suspended at a day centre for people with learning disabilities.
Concerns were raised over allegations of abuse at the John Daniel Centre in Penzance, Cornwall, in December last year.

Around 10 members of staff are understood to have been suspended. Police yesterday revealed they are conducting an investigation.
Cornwall Council said the inquiry will “ascertain whether criminal offences have been committed or not”.
In a joint statement, Cornwall Council and Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We appreciate this is a worrying time for all concerned and everyone involved understands the importance of moving things forward as quickly as possible.
“We remain in close contact with service users and their families.”
They said that staff had been suspended in line with “normal management procedures”.
“This does not presume any allegation is proven or that any suspended member of staff is involved,” they said.
“It simply allows for a thorough and fair investigation to take place.”

“I accept there is no presumption of guilt when staff members are suspended but ten is a large number. Do we know what the allegations were and whether they were made by centre users or their families? I am also interested in when the last inspection took place.
I hope whoever asked for my previous comment to be removed will find this one acceptable.”
