POLICE are searching for witnesses after a fight broke out between two gangs of young men in a Cornish village.

About eight men in their late teens and early 20s were involved in a stand-off in the car park of the market in Par, near St Austell, on Saturday.

Police have classified the incident in Par Moor Road as a violent disorder.

It is thought the confrontation took place when one of the groups arrived in a car and an argument broke out between the other gang, who were also in a car.

Police said the incident took place at about 12.30pm on Saturday.

A number of the men suffered injuries and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No arrests have been made, but police are still questioning people in the area.

A police spokesman said: “We stress that this is not a common occurrence and that appropriate measures are in place to prevent any further disorder.

“The people involved in this incident are not thought to present a risk to members of the general public.”

Police ask that any witnesses to contact them on 08452 777444 quoting incident log 412 of March 13.
