Port go nap but defeat is harsh on Hurlers
Ludgvan 0, Porthleven 5
PORT boss Kevin Richards was the first to admit that his side's victory was an "absolute travesty" of the way the game was played out at Fairfield on Saturday.
The visitors were outplayed in the opening period despite taking the lead after six minutes when Rob Troon challenged home keeper Ryan Gendall for Chris Strike's corner, the ball falling to Ben Medlin who fired home from close range.
Despite this early setback Ludgvan quickly took control and created a hatful of chances, under the expert leaderdship of player manager John Matthews. His son Ashley brought two fine saves from visiting keeper Richard Pennington and also shot narrowly wide.
Lee Bennett hit the post after playing three successive one-twos with Ali Thomas, Danny Ford and Ashley Matthews. Ford also hit the bar and it seemed only a matter of time before the home side would be rewarded with a goal.
It nearly came at the start of the second half, with Ashley Matthews forcing another save from Pennington.
But Porthleven gained some breathing space after 55 minutes when Aaron Collick ran on to Dean Bray's through ball and fired a left foot shot into the far corner.
And the visitors went three up six minutes later when Joe Bray, making his debut in senior football, shot in at the far post from Kyle Harvey's driven cross.
With Ludgvan now beginning to tire, Harvey notched the fourth from another superb through ball from Dean Bray before Joe Bray fired his second 10 minutes from time.
St Ives 4, Wendron 0
THREE goals inside five minutes before half-time saw the Saints to a comfortable victory at The Saltings.
The home side went close to opening their account when an early Darren Steadman strike was cleared off the line, but at the other end Richard Crowle twice brought saves from home keeper Tony Simons.
Wendron keeper Luke Hillyard pulled off the first of several fine saves when he tipped a Chris Russell header over the bar before St Ives took the lead on 40 minutes when Steadman's cross was flicked on by Danny Paynter for Andy Trathen to tap in from close range.
Two minutes later Paynter crossed for Steadman to fire past Hillyard from 20 yards. And Steadman returned the compliment three minutes later, providing the cross for Paynter to volley home the third from 12 yards.
There was still time before the break for Wendron to be awarded a penalty when Andrew Perkin was penalised in the box, but Andrew Philpott skied his spot kick over.
Hillyard was Wendron's hero in the second half, keeping out shots from Paynter, Perkin, Trathen and Paul Fox, though the woodwork came to his rescue when Andre Otto's header hit the bar.
But the inevitable fourth goal duly came five minutes from time, Perkin volleying an unstoppable shot past Hillyard from an Otto corner.
Falmouth 3, Penzance 3
FALMOUTH fought back from 3-1 down to clinch a share of the spoils from an entertaining encounter at Bickland Park on Saturday.
Town player-manager Bryn Wheeler was an unlikely hero for the home side, playing in goal he pulled off a string of superb saves.
Falmouth took a fourth minute lead when Simon O'Neil turned his marker to fire a shot past advancing keeper Craig Nicholls.
But Penzance were back on terms two minutes later when Ross Badcock knocked in Gary Matthews' cross at the far post.
The Magpies were denied by the woodwork when Ashley Thomas' attempted lob came back off the bar, before Wheeler made the first of several splendid saves to deny Badcock.
Wheeler again denied Badcock a second goal with a good stop with his legs, but this time the ball fell to Thomas who was left with a simple tap-in to make it 2-1 on 20 minutes.
The visitors extended their lead 12 minutes before the break when Badcock got his second, but Falmouth then pulled one back five minutes after the interval when James Parkinson volleyed low in the net from 10 yards out.
Penzance had chances to extend their lead when Steve Hancock twice came close, but it was Town who clawed their way back into the game and drew level after 64 minutes when Chris Peck's volley gave keeper Nicholls no chance.
But it took more heroics from Wheeler to prevent the visitors going home with all three points, with three outstanding stops inside 20 action-packed seconds denying his old club victory.
