Porthleven carer wins women's triathlon
A PORTHLEVEN woman who created a spoof Rocky training video to raise cash for charity has won a punishing half-ironman triathlon.
Jane Manning was the women's winner and 13th overall in the gruelling race in Snowdonia.
The course involved swimming 1.2 miles in a cold lake, cycling 56 miles and running a half-marathon – 13.1 miles – to the summit of Snowdon and back down.
The 28-year-old crossed the finish line, exhausted and elated, after 7 hours, 14 minutes and 22 seconds.

She said: "I am incredibly pleased and proud. I am also surprised I won the women's race."
Ms Manning, who works as a carer in Falmouth, is raising money for the homeless charity St Petroc's Society.
She created her own four-minute parody of the fitness montage in the classic Sylvester Stallone movie, showing her in training around Falmouth, Helston and Porthleven.
Her hard work paid off on the day.
She said: "I made myself look up. I'd never seen Snowdon before and I'd lived in Wales for a few years too.
"I instructed myself to absorb the scenery – looking up to appreciate the mountainous views between gobbling energy gels. The hardest bit was the run up Snowdon itself. I knew that was coming at the end.
"We're meant to run up it but when I got to the bottom it was so steep and stoney that it was more like a power walk. That was really painful and I can't remember how long that went on for. The muscles in my legs were screaming as the pain of the burn grew excruciating. At the summit I almost cried with relief."
Disaster nearly struck on the way back down when Ms Manning stumbled, clipping her toe.
Through her blog, Jane has raised about £600 for St Petroc's Society.
Donations can be made at www.petrocky.blogspot.co.uk or by cheque to the society.
