Porthleven dump Penryn out of Throgmorton Cup
Penryn Athletic 0, Porthleven 2
DENNIS Annear’s Porthleven booked a Throgmorton Cup second round tie with Mousehole after defeating division one west rivals Penryn Athletic on Saturday.
First half goals from Freddie Williams and captain Tom Annear were enough to see Annear’s men through to the next round and Port’s player-boss will not only have been pleased with the result but the performance of his young side.
They may have rode their luck at times, with Greg Hobbs and Tyler Cooke hitting the post in the opening five minutes. But after Freddie Williams’ shot took a deflection off Penryn defender Kirk Davies to give Porthleven a seventh minute lead, the visitors grew in confidence.

And when Tom Annear drilled his 40th minute penalty past Penryn goalkeeper Chris Symons in the 40th minute, there was no way back for the hosts.
Their luck was out again at the beginning of the second half when Kevin Lawrence saw his low shot come back off the foot of the post.
But on the whole Dennis Annear was rarely troubled in the Porthleven goal and when Penryn, who were without the prolific Kayne Trevaskis, did find a way through, Port’s player-manager was equal.
Porthleven travel to Mousehole, who were 3-1 winners against Helston Athletic, in the second round on October 26.
