Portreath Cliff Rescue team met with "incredible" abuse after warning people of rough sea dangers
Members of a Cornish coastguard team have reported “incredible” abuse from crowds of local people who had gathered to watch 30 foot waves crash into the seafront.
Portreath Cliff Rescue team has posted on their facebook page that they were on quays and car parks along with police on Monday night, warning the many hundreds of people who had gathered to watch the incoming ‘Hercules’ storm.
But the team, who risk their lives to save those stranded at sea, was met with abuse mostly from local people, despite the thousands of tonnes of water, rocks and sand that smashed into the seafront throughout the night.
The team said: “The abuse that the emergency services suffered from the public was incredible. More importantly, was that the majority of it came from local people directing their anger at the very persons who were trying to stop them walking into danger.”

The post saw a massive response from those who appreciate the work of the rescue service.
Commenting on facebook, Donna Roberts said: “Different story when those same services are the ones who put their lives at risk rescuing them when things go wrong x.”
Mandy Francis said: “They are total idiots for ignoring warnings and not respecting the power and strength of the sea and should be ashamed of themselves for their behaviour and the abuse they gave you. Thank you for what you do to save lives, risking your own while doing so. This person certainly respects you.”
And Helen Oats simply wrote: “Idiots!”
