Praa Sands Pirate Raft Race raising cash for Shelterbox
THE ANNUAL Praa Sands Pirate Raft Race will be raising money for Shelterbox when it takes place on Sunday (AUGUST 18).
Now in it's sixth year, thousands of locals and tourists will flock to Praa Sands beach in where rafts (and rowers) of all shapes and sizes will take to the high seas.
Many of the rafts are designed more for show - with a history of wonderful fancy dress constructions including last year’s Trotter’s Trading yellow van from Only Fools and Horses.
But the racing is also competitive with many keen to get a competitive edge.
There is a maximum of 25 rafts so entry is on a first come basis.
All rafts must be on the beach and trailers removed by 10am. Rafts must contain no sea craft - surf boards, skis, kayaks - and have a minimum of four rowers.
Entry fee is £8 per pirate with all entries paid in advance.
As well as the raft race, there's live music, a licensed beach bar, stalls and entertainment for all the family.
On Saturday there is a pre-race pirate party at The Sandbar from 9pm, entry for the Pirate Party is £10.00.
All proceeds from the day will go to ShelterBox. Last year's event raised more than £7,500.
