Cornish Mining World Heritage Site needs public comment for management plan
THE Cornish Mining World Heritage Site has released a draft copy of its latest management plan.
UNESCO included ten former mining areas across Cornwall and West Devon on the World Heritage List in 2006.
These areas contain the physical remains of hard-rock mining from the period between 1700 and 1914, when Cornish Mining had its greatest international impacts.
The UK Government is required to produce a management plan for the site, which describes the principal landscape assets and how these will be protected, conserved and explained to the public.

The Cornish Mining World Heritage Site Partnership Board has taken on this task on their behalf.
The partnership is now inviting local people to comment on the plan, which sets out how the World Heritage Site will be cared for and how development will be managed to preserve its international importance.
The document describes the policies and strategic actions that local authorities and others will pursue in order to achieve this.
The documents can be seen at www.cornish-mining.org.uk/consultation, and copies have also been circulated to town and parish councils in the ten areas, and local libraries and one stop shops across Cornwall and west Devon.

The closing date for comments is January 14, 2013.
Responses can either be made online via www.cornishmining.org.uk/consultation using the questionnaire, or in writing to the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site Office, Percuil Building, Old County Hall, Truro TR1 3AY.
