Pupils are give a glimpse of life during Victorian times
PUPILS from Perranporth County Primary are taking part in activities to learn about the Victorians and the effect they had on the resort.
Pupils in years four and five, aged from eight to 10, visited Perranzabuloe Museum where they were shown items from the Victorian era by the museum secretary Chris Easton.
At the museum the children enjoyed eating saffron buns and drinking the home-made Victorian lemonade.
Mr Easton then brought out lots of Victorian clothes for children to dress up in. The museum was soon full of happy young miners and Bal maidens.
The children showed him their classroom display of Victorian artefacts and photographs.
The pupils also went on a guided tour of Victorian Perranporth.
The main stopping points were Nampara Court (built by Passmore Edwards as a convalescent home for men), Nampara Cottages (the old Dame School, where Mr Easton's family used to live) and the old railway line embankment. They also visited Bolenna Tennis Courts, St Michael's Church, the boating lake and gardens, the Victorian shop, now a hairdressers, Tywarnhayle Inn, the Red House, Tywarnhayle Road hotels, the Coastguard Cottages, the Oddfellows Hall and the Methodist Church.
