Putting mums in the picture
A CONFIDENCE-BOOSTING art exhibition highlighting the often overlooked and undervalued job of motherhood is heading for Penzance, the home of creators.
Story Of Mum: Mums Making An Exhibition Of Ourselves will be at The Exchange art gallery in Penzance from today to October 10 and mums are invited along for fun, sharing and a well-deserved pat on the back.
It has been devised by Pippa Best and her mother Penny, both from Penzance, and Pippa said: "The exhibition aims to help mums connect with the parts of ourselves which can be overshadowed in motherhood.
"Becoming part of the touring exhibition and having your work displayed in top international galleries feels amazing. It's also a great way to recognise that every mother is creative – we create children, and there's nothing more incredible than that."

The exhibition which started in Milton Keynes, isn't just for viewing; mums are encouraged to add their own contribution and have it displayed in high profile galleries across the world.
At the mums-only Make Date which will kick off the exhibition at The Exchange tonight from 7.30pm to 10pm, mums will be given the opportunity to express their changing identity by having "I'm a mum and a ..." photographs taken, and by trying out creative activities such as making a Mamal Mash-up collage.
Five brave local mums will share their own My Mum Story films, and Sally Crabtree will perform her curated version of the Story of Mum communal poem.
Mums can also get involved tomorrow alongside their children with a Family Make Date for parents, grandparents, carers and little ones.
Hands-on crafting and storytelling will take place throughout the day with drop-in sessions from 11am to 12.30pm and 2 to 5pm.
The touring exhibition offers an exciting hands-on addition to the virtual exhibition hosted and developed online at www.storyofmum.com
Both experiences offer the opportunity for mums to connect, get creative, and share their stories.
