Quality that counts
A YOUNG couple have taken over a Penzance eaterie, and rebranded it as an upmarket café that serves quality food.
Mackerel Sky Café is now in the culinary hands of husband and wife duo Jamie and Nina MacLean.
Moving in to the New Street venue just before Christmas, the 27-year-olds have already revamped the menu and upped opening hours to attract customers.
"I would say it is a posh café or informal restaurant, with good food and casual dining," said Nina.

"And the menu is modern, contemporary British with an emphasis on seafood."
Striving to source all of their ingredients locally, the pair collect their fish daily from Newlyn and have their meat and vegetables provided by Penwith companies.
While Nina welcomes diners in the front of house, husband Jamie is at the coal face, rustling up tasty fare.
Before moving to west Cornwall, the pair lived and worked in London with Jamie building up his chef experience at gastro pubs and fine dining restaurants.
And it is his experience of cooking in the capital that he draws on now.
"I always preferred gastro pubs because of the decent, good quality food and good prices," he said.
"That is what we are trying to do here."
The café is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm and Thursday to Saturday from 10am until late.
Mackerel Sky is also offering a three-course Valentine menu for £25.
