Quizzed over fraud claims
A SALTASH man who worked as head of campaigns and communications for a charity has been arrested on suspicion of fraud and sacked from the organisation.
Steve Taylor, 35, was dismissed by the League Against Cruel Sports on Tuesday for gross misconduct after it carried out a disciplinary investigation over expenses claims.
The animal rights charity has passed its findings to police and the Charity Commission.
Mr Taylor was arrested on Monday and released on bail until January 10 to return to Guildford police station.
A spokeswoman for Surrey Police – where the charity is based – confirmed a 35-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of fraud after the force received information concerning financial irregularities.
A spokeswoman for the League Against Cruel Sports said: "We do take a zero tolerance approach to any wrongdoing and for this reason we are co-operating fully with the police in their investigations."
The Charity Commission released a statement confirming the League Against Cruel Sports had informed them of their concerns.
"Based on information given by the charity, we are satisfied the trustees of the charity are dealing with the matter appropriately," said the statement.
