Race on to beat cancer as entries open for fundraiser
Women across Cornwall are being urged to sign up for one of the country’s most phenomenally successful fundraising events.
The Race for Life, organised by Cancer Research UK, raises tens of thousands of pounds every year to fight the dreaded diseased.
The charity said that entries are now open for three Race for Life events in Cornwall this spring and it is hoped bumper numbers of women will take part in the 5km event.
Sam Beare, Cancer Research UK’s Cornwall Events Manager, said: “We’re calling on Cornwall’s mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.

“We know how committed Cornwall women can be when they really make up their minds to do something. We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.”
Last year, over 3,600 women took part in various Race for Life events in Cornwall and raised £180,000.
This year, organisers want to top that amount and say they need 3,700 women and girls to stride out to help raise over £190,000.
Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save lives across the South West, where every day around 84 people are diagnosed with cancer.
This year, Race for Life will be staged at Falmouth on May 18, Penzance on May 28 and Truro on July 13.
