Rain keeps Land's End airstrip closed
Relentless heavy rain has forced the continuing suspension of flights from the West of Cornwall to the Scilly Isles.
Skybus, which is owned by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, has not been able to operate flights from Land's End since the flooding in December.

A spokesman for the company said services would continue to run from Newquay Airport instead, up to January 16, when the situation will be reviewed.
The spokesman said that the turf landing strip at Land's End remained saturated due to the torrential rain.

"On a number of occasions we have been on the cusp of being able to resume passenger flights from Land's End only for more rain to fall," he said.
"The situation is frustrating but during December we received almost 50 per cent more rain than average so the ground remains very wet.
"We are continuing to explore longer term solutions to hardening the runway but for the next week have opted to fly via Newquay in order to give certainty to all our passengers. As soon as we can resume flying from Land's End, we will."

I'm sure it would be sensible and stop all this pfaffing about. You can't take off on a grass runway that is waterlogged, can you?”
