RED Letter Days is the result of a Feast-funded collaboration between popular trio Bagas Degol and local writer Annamaria Murphy.

The show tells the story of a day and night in the life of a village or community feast.

The main theme of the performance consists of a narrative set to music, with asides where the audience meets characters from the community through stories and songs.

Bagas Degol accompany the spoken word with haunting compositions, both original and reinvented, on instruments ranging from, mandolin, guitar, Armenian daduk, harmonium, clarinet, small pipes and percussion. From saints to sinners, broken hearts and Friday nights, it's a perfect mix of story and music, a feast for the ears, soul and imagination.

"This group carries on the traditions of Cornish heritage in myth and music. We look forward to welcoming them back again in the future."

The show has been well received at village halls and community centre's through out Cornwall, including the Daphne Du Maurier Festival and the Acorn Arts Centre among others.

The show has been described as a "Cornish Under Milk Wood".

Annamaria Murphy is a writer, teacher and performer, best known for her work with Kneehigh Theatre(Red Shoes, Tristan and Ysuelt), BBC Radio 4, (short stories and afternoon plays) and Scavel an Gow and the Secret Six story project with Jane Pugh. Since their conception in 2001 to lead Tom Bawcocks' celebrations in Mousehole, Bagas Degol have continued to be one of Cornwall's best known and most popular contemporary folk bands.

Their name, Bagas Degol literally means, "feast day band" in Cornish and they are probably best known for playing a range of processional, and celebratory music for festivals, civic events and weddings. Band members David Twomlow, Rick Williams and Dave Trahair produce a unique and atmospheric sound which ranges from hypnotic ceremonial pieces to rousing dance sets.

Red Letter Days is at The Centre, Chywoone Hill, Newlyn, on Saturday, 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 in advance or £7 on door. Contact 01736 365890.
