Redruth gold business offers young designers chance to shine
A Redruth gold business is giving art and design students the chance to create Cornish inspired jewellery to form a new collection marking its 25th anniversary.
Cornish Goldsmith and Cornwall Pearl, at Treasure Park, will be asking the students to create designs to a set brief and budget.
The winning pieces will be manufactured commercially and be put on sale with the
students biography as ‘ones to watch’ in the field of design.

There are two categories - pearl and gold designs - and six winners for the competition.
It is open to students attending courses at Truro and Penwith College, Cornwall College in Camborne and University College Falmouth.
The winning pieces will be judged on their fulfilment to the brief, their commercial viability and practicality for production.
Andrew Richard, marketing manager at The Cornish Goldsmiths, said the brief calls for a seven piece collection of contemporary jewellery that has
been inspired by Cornwall.
He said: “The design can be inspired by any aspect of
the county, be it the power of the sea to its heritage in mining. It is a real world opportunity that will give them vital budget and commercial experience.
“We wanted to mark our 25th anniversary with something special using the Cornish brand which we think will tap into the visitor market as well as locals who are very proud of their county’s heritage.”
First place winners in each category will receive £500 plus 5 per cent in royalties from the sales of their work. Second place will get £250 and third £200.
The winners will be revealed during a champagne launch party at Goldsmiths
in June next year. The winning designs will be sold alongside the designers’ profiles throughout the year.
