Redruth: let's make it the spiritual home of the pasty!
REDRUTH is to host a new celebration of Cornwall's favourite meal as part of a three-day event in homage to the town's mining heritage.
The plan extends and links two existing events, Miner's Day and St Euny Church's celebration of local mining history, creating what will be known as The Cornish Pasty Festival.

Organisers are so confident of success they want it to become an annual event and have applied to trademark the phrase Cornish Pasty Festival so no-one else can use it.
During the pasty festival on Saturday, September 22, pasty producers and suppliers of Cornish produce will turn the town centre into a bustling street market.

A community bake-off will run in the former Boots store in Fore Street, with experienced makers helping people bake their own pasties for a mass picnic at Fairfield later on.
Prima Bakery, Etherington Butchers and Gear Farm have agreed to donate the pastry, meat and vegetables.
Fairfield will host attractions including music from Redruth Radio, a beer tent, marquee and games.
Town development manager Lee Dunkley said: "We spoke to the organisers of the two existing things that happen in Redruth in September and asked if they would come together under one umbrella.
"It's already clear that the town council and the people of Redruth want a calendar of major annual events.
"The target set was for four. We already have Murdoch Day in June, Christmas in December and St Piran's Day in March.
"The Cornish Pasty Festival in September will become the fourth."
Key figures behind the pasty festival idea are Richard Williams, of Poldark Mine, who has personally experienced the annual celebration of the Cornish pasty in Mexico, and former Redruth mayor Councillor Ian Thomas.
Mayor of Redruth Judy Davidson, MBE, is one of those now driving the project.
She said: "I'm very excited about it. Building on the vision we have, it could become a massive event.
"We hope local people will get behind it, and we also hope visitors will come to Cornwall and make Redruth a destination weekend."
Miners' Day will begin mid-afternoon on Friday, September 21, with a re-enactment of the true tale of the auctioning of a miner's wife and his subsequent jailing.
Sunday, September 23, will see former miners remembered at St Euny church.

“Bigger and our friend from Newcastle would choke on their cash and carry cornflakes if they knew some of the motivating people, or rather their political affiliations, behind these four celebrations in Redruth.
There is a determination in Redruth to make the celebrations exceptionally Cornish.
Tourism is of no interest unless it is aimed at the ex pat Cornish who love to come home Redruth. I wish this could be repeated elsewhere. Real Cornish and far far from anything English!”
