A NORTH CORNWALL primary school has been given a glowing Ofsted report and described as a place where "happy and harmonious relationships support the hardworking atmosphere".

Tregadillett Primary School was praised by the inspectors for its dedicated team of staff and the hardworking pupils determined to do their best.

Commenting on the significant improvements which had taken place since the school's last inspection, the report says: "Tregadillett Primary is a good school. At the heart of its community, the school has made significant strides forward in recent years. Attainment and progress are improving steadily and have risen rapidly in writing, because teaching is more settled and of a consistently high quality."

"The head teacher leads with dedication and her vision is widely shared among staff, governors and parents."

Head teacher Mary Dolan said: "I am delighted that the report reflects the hard work and the achievement of the whole school community."

The report also praised the school classrooms for being bright and cheerful with a "vibrant learning environment".

The inspectors were also impressed by the outdoor classroom at the school which was an added dimension to the children's learning.

The pupils were described as well behaved with positive attitudes towards learning.

"Probably the most striking aspect of the school is the sheer delight in learning that characterises many pupils' attitudes. They talk with enthusiasm about their work, are keen to do their best and tackle everything with enthusiasm and determination," the report said.

Bev Tibbetts, chairman of the governors, said: "We really do appreciate the participation and involvement of parents, the village and the local town in helping to make our school a valuable part of the community and a great place to work and learn."

She added: "I am very pleased that the report recognises the commitment of staff, governors, pupils and parents. It is a true reflection of the school ethos: we all play our part to achieve the best in everything."

The report identified just two areas of action for governors and staff to raise standards further: to accelerate pupils' progress in reading and mathematics by ensuring more opportunities for using and applying skills in a range of different subjects, and developing a more formal approach to national and international community cohesion by building on the good work already undertaken.
