MEMBERS of the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team dashed from one end of the country to the other to climb four peaks in less than 36 hours.

Paul Miller, Steve Payne, Steve Puckey and Andrew Thomas climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Fell, Snowdon and Brown Willy to raise money for their lifesaving organisation.

Assisted by drivers Nigel Hutchings and Sean Penhaligan, the 4 Peaks Challenge began with the ascent of Ben Nevis and after reaching the summit, they unfurled a St Piran flag before making their descent.

Then it was straight on to the Lake District and Scafell Pike, which they arrived at 3am in the morning. They were up and down three and a half hours later, and sustained by bacon rolls, drove on to North Wales where Snowdon awaited them six and a half hours later. Successfully completed, the long drive back to Cornwall saw the team start their climb up Brown Willy at 12.30am on the Sunday morning, reaching the top 45 minutes later despite tired legs and blisters.

The four peaks had been conquered in a time of 32 hours and 15 minutes, with sponsorship money goring towards training and equipment for the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team.
