Rhys and Hot Property prove a winning combination
THE showing season has brought many highlights for local competitors, with Rhys Harper taking his share of the limelight on his new ride Hot Property.
Ensuring that Hot Property lived up to his name, Rhys rose to the occasion at the prestigious Equifest Equine Extravaganza which saw thousands of competitors converging on the East of England Showground at Peterborough.
The 19-year-old from Mylor, partnered Hot Property to victory in the Equifest/Hood Maxi Cob final having already shown their credentials with a win in the restricted cob class.
Acquired by Rhys' mother Lisa at the beginning of the season from Tracey Harris, this 16hh eight-year-old maxi cob is developing into a serious contender on the showing circuit.

Lisa said: "They really hit it off and make a super combination. Rhys was lucky to have a few lessons with Bridget Millington during her visit to Cornwall earlier in the year and this helped them forge their partnership immensely.
"When away from showing Rhys loves nothing better than to take Hot Property swimming in the sea. They really trust one another."
Rhys enjoyed the unique experience of the Equifest atmosphere and in particular the evening performance when competitors are requested to dress for the big occasion under the spotlights.
Rhys, who juggles his busy showing commitments with his work with gyms in Truro and Perranporth, said: "I felt we were on form when we won the restricted class. He has recently qualified as a Personal Trainer and is keen to focus on the nutritional side of fitness alongside equine specific fitness.
"Winning the Equifest / Hood Maxi Cob Final was the icing on the cake. The presentation took place in the Equifest Arena during the evening performance and Hot Property really is a big occasion horse rising to the moment and loving every minute." Lisa added : "I was very proud of them both and they looked amazing in their evening wear."
Rhys franked his form with a creditable fourth place on Gill Drake's lightweight cob Zorst in his respective final.
"I'm very exciting about next season," said Rhys. "And I'd like to extend a huge thanks to all the team for their help."
KATHRYN Pitt, of the Chycoose Stud, Redruth continued her momentum on the national showing scene with a series of excellent results.
At the National Pony Society championships her outstanding stallion, Chycoose Troubadour, was covered in glory winning the open hunter pony breeding, the open hunter ridden class and stood first and champion in the Nick Snelling novice hunter pony section partnered by Lucy Bowden.
Led by Kathryn, this son of Strinesdale Matador went onto secure the championship and supreme Bankswood Gold Medal hunter pony breeding title.
At the Equifest Equine Extravaganza, Chycoose Troubadour emerged as champion in the Equifest Hunter breeding, while Chycoose Trilogy took first place and the reserve championship in the Equifest Riding Horse breeding.
Chycoose Trilogy also stood overall open riding championship and headed the two-three year-old hack line-up while stablemate Cartier claimed the overall open hacking breeding championship and stood champion in the Equifest Hack breeding.
Kathryn continued her run of success with her team at the British Show Pony Society championships owning three of the four contenders in the overall challenge title.
Her intermediate mare Scattery Diamond shone to clinch the overall supreme title and Kathryn was delighted as this was a big test for the Irish bred former showjumper.
Completing the line-up, Kathryn's novice intermediate show riding type China Rose headed her class and claimed the winner's place in the challenge intermediate show riding type while her own Stage Music who is produced at home with Kathryn, was second ridden by Lucy Bowden.
CANDY and Gary Wood extend a warm welcome to the informal opening and viewing day of their new Jubilee Arena, Chenhale, Carharrack at 11am on Saturday. This brand new facility will be available for hire to individuals and groups. A great deal of excitement and anticipation has surrounded this project and the Woods are keen to share their arena with the local community.
