Swimmers are being warned to avoid a Devon river after an outbreak of a severe vomiting bug. Environmental health officers at East Devon District Council have issued the alert on the River Otter at Budleigh Salterton after children playing in the river became violently ill. Tests have now shown the children were infected with norovirus, which is a highly infectious form of gastroenteritis. Signs advising the public not to bathe or paddle in the river were yesterday put up near the mouth of the River Otter at Lime Kilns.
