It is believed that one person was injured but the severity of their injuries is not known.
Crew members discovered a rear first-floor bedroom was well alight and the flames had spread up into the roof.
Four firefighters wearing breathing equipment used two jet hoses on the blaze, as well as an Ariel ladder frame from Truro, which they set up in the road.
“It was quite severe in the one bedroom, where the fire was fully developed,” said firefighter Keith Coles, from St Austell. “It had broken into the roof area and the first floor was heavily smoke-logged.
“It took about half an hour to extinguish, which is quite a severe fire.
“The residents were evacuated to the car park and I think the Red Cross was there.
“It is believed that one person was injured.”
A full investigation will be carried out by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service later today.
