Roads gritted as freeze is set to follow floods in Devon and Cornwall
Gritters have been out in force across Devon and Cornwall after the floods gave way to freezing conditions.
Major roads were treated by the teams from the two county councils in areas where forecasters predict the temperature will drop below zero. Council chiefs said that due to the recent heavy rainfall, there was still a lot of water on the roads.

In Cornwall, roads around hospitals, health centres, bus and railway stations as well as hundreds of miles of main roads were treated last night.
A gritting run took place in Devon at 6pm last night and again at 10pm. A further run was also planned for 4am this morning before rush hour.

A total of 1,688 miles of road were set to be gritted – some 21% of the county's highway network.
Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, urged drivers to be careful.
"Road users must be aware that conditions on the county's roads may be icy, even on treated roads," he said. "The recent bad weather means there is a lot of surface water and run-off around.
"I would appeal for everyone to take care, and drive carefully."
