Royal Navy task force that kept the Games safe
An array of stunning photographs have offered a fascinating insight into how the Royal Navy helped keep the Olympics and Paralympics Games safe. Devonport-based HMS Bulwark was stationed off the coast of Weymouth where the Olympics and Paralympics sailing was taking place. Her photographer, Leading Hand Joel Rouse, 26, captured the maritime security operation and produced some incredible shots, which include this aerial photo of the entire Dorset multi-agency force at sea in perfect weather conditions. Bulwark, an amphibious command and control ship, was supporting Dorset Police in security across 50 square miles of coastline at the Weymouth Bay and Portland. During the games, Bulwark directed the movements of Royal Marines raiding craft, patrol boats, civilian launches and boats. It also fed live imagery of the waters around Weymouth by special cameras fitted to Fleet Air Arm Merlin helicopters on patrol overhead. The ship has since departed Portland to return to her home base in Devonport
