Rugby player held after fatal shooting
THIS is the face of the man police are holding in connection with the fatal shooting of a businessman in Cornwall at the weekend.
After Adam Hustler, 41, was shot dead and his wife Amanda, 40, was left with two gunshot wounds to her back, officers arrested a 23-year-old man.
Locals named the man as Jonathan Cock, the ex-boyfriend of the couple's daughter Danielle, 20.
He was a member of St Just Rugby Club where he was known by team-mates as "Johnny Cock".
Last night, Brian Murley, former president of the club, said that Jonathan Cock was quiet, a former RAF avionics technician and a promising rugby player.
Mr Murley, 65, was president of St Just RFC when Jonathan played for the team last year.
He said: "He was a nice guy. He could have been a choirboy because he has a baby face and looks really innocent – he is a good-looking chap.
"He was a quiet lad but he mixed with the other boys but was not noisy or rowdy."
The horrific incident happened at the couple's luxury home at Porth Kea, near Truro, at 10pm on Saturday.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man for murder at Newbridge, Penzance, seven hours after the double shooting. He had self-inflicted facial wounds and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
A police spokesman said last night: "The 23-year-old is under police guard at the hospital and is in a stable condition.
"He is still recovering from his injuries and as yet has not been questioned by officers. He will not be interviewed until he is in a fit state."
Mrs Hustler, a Jehovah's Witness, was fired at as she tried to flee the bullets.
Her husband, who shared the same faith, was shot and later died in hospital from his injuries.
Mr and Mrs Hustler were shot at close range with a high-velocity .22 hunting rifle.
Danielle and her sister Abigail, 16, were at the seven-bedroom detached house but were unharmed and raised the alarm.
Mr Hustler was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske, Truro, with his wife who was later transferred to Derriford Hospital.
Tim Mears, a family friend, said: "This has been a devastating shock to her and she is coping with severe physical and emotional pain over the loss of her husband.
"Despite this, her first thoughts were for others and her concern for her family and daughters was very evident.
"Amanda has had a long surgical procedure in Derriford Hospital. She is stable and surrounded by loving family and friends.
"She is very grateful for the excellent care she has received from the medical staff at Derriford. Doctors and nurses have been very kind.
"All her friends are hoping and praying that she will recover from her injuries.
"Amanda has held strong religious convictions for decades but I cannot comment on her personal decisions regarding her medical treatment."
Mr Mears, a fellow Jehovah's Witness, said that Mr Hustler's devastated family were being looked after by relatives and friends.
He added: "The family has asked me to thank all those in the local community, both on a personal and business level, who have been so supportive and thoughtful to them."
Mr Hustler ran Clear-Flow, a Truro drain clearance firm. Mr Cock met Danielle while working at Clear-Flow, where she also works as an engineer.
The couple were together for about a year and split up between six and eight weeks ago.
Jonathan Cock stopped working for the company last year.
