Rumours rife over plot for Newquay's new Nando's
CHICKEN chain Nando's has confirmed it is looking to open a restaurant in Newquay – the first one in Cornwall.
A Nando's spokesperson told the Cornish Guardian that it is yet to find a site for the restaurant, but the announcement has sparked rumours in the town that it may be placed on one of the resort's several derelict plots.
In May this newspaper revealed a pre-application inquiry had been submitted to Cornwall Council to transform the derelict old bus station at the bottom of Marcus Hill into a bar and restaurant.
Development company The Spey Group, which owns the land, would not confirm its plans for the site at the time but said it looked forward to "working with the council and the community to help to regenerate this part of Newquay town centre in the near future".

The Spey Group, which has been involved in projects throughout the UK and abroad and also with the Rocklands development of luxury apartments on Cliff Road, declined to comment on this latest development.
A spokesperson for Nando's said: "It's no lie we're looking to open a Nando's restaurant in Newquay," he said. "After success from our nearby Exeter and Plymouth sites, we feel a restaurant in Newquay will offer Nando's a great opportunity to expand its South West region."
Famous for its Portuguese style peri peri dishes, the nearest Nando's is currently in Plymouth.
