School children in Redruth see stories published
Pupils at Pennoweth Primary School in Redruth have been celebrating after seeing their own short stories in print for the first time in a special book, called Around the world in Eighty Words, following a national writing competition.
The 19 pupils, currently in years 5 and 6, were the only children from Cornwall to be selected for publication as part of the Young Writers competition.
Parents of the winning children were invited to the school’s celebration assembly to see the pupils receive a special certificate and a copy of the book will be on display in the school’s library.
Assistant head teacher, Helen Gaskin said of the competition: “We were delighted with the success of our pupils in being chosen out of all the national entries to be published in this celebration of young story writing and to see their enthusiasm for writing rewarded in this way.
