School welcomes turbine
PUPILS at St Kew Primary School have welcomed their Windsave wind turbine in a move to help save the planet.
The new device will feed directly into the school's power supply and make the most of the building's elevated position. Blustery playtimes will never be the same again as the children watch the LED display telling them how much energy they are saving.

St Kew School starts its green energy programme with the installation of a Windsave wind turbine won through the B&Q One Planet Living awards. The students won the turbine through the B&Q One Planet Living awards, which promote awareness of current consumer lifestyles.
Head teacher Dave Rushton said: "The awards fund projects that encourage sustainability and the efficient use of resources that will enable us to survive with just the one planet. Environmental issues are high on the agenda for pupils and staff at St Kew School. Their new 'outside classroom' offers a space for growing their own vegetables, a science garden to welcome wildlife and a storytelling circle.
"Even though the school is located away from the village, March on Monday is a weekly event to encourage children to walk to school with extra playtime as a reward for reducing their carbon footprint.
"Pupils from St Kew value the beauty and diversity that Cornwall offers and are eager to take the message of respect and responsible living to the rest of the county, UK and the world. They believe that everyone can make a difference. I am delighted with the project. It represents a lot of hard work and commitment from the children and staff of the school. I am sure as the technology develops we will see innovative projects such as this gathering momentum and securing a sustainable future for our children."
