Schools and Christmas make for a busy mayoral timetable
MY deputy mayor and I had the pleasure of hosting a visit to the town council chambers of the school council from Trewirgie Primary School.
They had some interesting questions for us, such as "What does the mayor actually do?" and all the children took turns at banging the gavel and having their photographs taken wearing the mayoral chain.

They were all beautifully behaved; I think our future is in good hands.
I also attended a meeting at St Day and Carharrack School where several of our local schools discussed their plan, under the banner of Redruth Learning Group, to form a co-operative trust.

They have already consulted with the parents and are in the final stages of the consultation to achieve this status.
It will give the schools taking part support and purchasing power and is an alternative to choosing academy status.
The Christmas events' committee met this week and preparations are well under way for our Christmas procession on December 1 led by Father Christmas and myself. A competition has had a good take-up from local businesses, where schools decorate shop windows, which with the decorative Christmas trees and lights, will give the town a really festive look.
Once again the Christmas grotto is expected to be a big hit with the children.
I just can't believe that the big day is only eight weeks away.
Plans are well under way for an "open session" at Redruth Community Centre for young people to come in after school to find out more about the youth council. Refreshments will be on offer and we are hoping that the youngsters will put up their ideas on Post-it notes on how this will be organised and where they would like to meet. They can also put their names forward to become members.
Posters and leaflets will be in the town to advertise the event and we are hoping that we will have a lot of interest as we would like to launch the council in the new year.
The person responsible for bringing all the plans together and getting the project off the ground is Beverley Brown.
