Scillonian III starts Sunday Scillies service from Penzance
THE SCILLONIAN breaks with years of tradition when it launches its Sunday service to the Isles of Scilly in the first week of July.
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company start ten weeks of Sunday sailings on July 7.
Plans to introduce the seventh day sailings were announced earlier this year.
The islands are currently suffering as a result of the loss of the British International Helicopters service from Easter Green to St Mary’s.

The sailings will run until September 8, increasing capacity and offering greater flexibility to holidaymakers and islanders, who previously had to leave either on Saturday, cutting their weekend short, or wait until Monday, breaking into another week.
Scillonian III, which is owned and operated by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, underwent a £2 million programme of refurbishments over the winter with upgrades including new flooring, lighting, electronic signage, bathrooms and café.
Facilities for disabled passengers have been improved, with a new passenger lift installed that will give wheelchair users direct access to the main deck, and designated space for disabled passengers.
IOSC chief executive Jeff Marston, said: “The recent refurbishment of Scillonian III was aimed at improving the travel experience for our customers by making the journey between Penzance and St Mary’s as relaxing and comfortable as possible. The Sunday sailings will complement the existing Monday – Saturday schedule, as well as the regular Skybus flights from Land’s End, Newquay and Exeter, giving residents and visitors to the islands maximum levels of flexibility and choice for travel.”
Isles of Scilly Travel are offering half price travel on the Scillonian for all bookings made from July 1 for Sunday crossings.
