Bideford boss Sean Joyce has swooped to bolster his Evo-Stik League Southern Premier squad with Torquay United midfielders Carl Baker and Saul Halpin.

Both players will go straight into Joyce's squad for tomorrow's match at basement side Kettering Town.

The ebullient Robins boss – a Yorkshireman – is a former Torquay United midfielder and has retained useful links with the Gulls since becoming manager at Bideford.

On confirming the signings, Joyce said: "We have got Carl and Saul coming up and they will go straight into the squad for Kettering.

"We have got three away matches coming up in seven days – Kettering, [Plymouth] Parkway in the Devon St Luke's Cup on Tuesday and then Hitchin in the league next Saturday.

"At whatever level you play at these days it's a squad game. It's about the 16 not 11 and at our level it is no different.

"Besides, two new faces will give us a little lift at just the right time. Carl and Saul have got pace and we are a dynamic team so now we will have pace all over the park, and from the bench, which is going to be ideal for the run-in.

"We've just drawn 2-2 at Arlesey on Tuesday night and last Saturday we were at Stourbridge. I reckon I know the coach driver better than some of the players, we've seen so much of each other this season, but we knew that's what this league would be all about.

"We are a close-knit group, the lads are brilliant, they give me their all and I saw that again on Tuesday night.

"I also saw they were feeling it come the end and in a way it's quite good we have got the extra day off before Kettering because we left at half past one on Tuesday and did not get back until gone half past three on Wednesday morning.

"There would have been some tired legs if we were playing on Saturday, so the extra 24 hours may do us a favour."

Joyce is without talismanic skipper – and another former Torquay United midfielder – Matt Hockley – but can recall Matt Bye and Ian Sampson.

Tiverton Town bid to bounce back from Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at play-off rivals Yate when they host third-placed Swindon Supermarine in Division One South & West.

Taunton Town host mid-table Wimborne after Tuesday's 4-1 defeat at second-placed Poole.
