FORMER Fowey Community College pupils are appealing for their classmates from the year 1973 to come forward and attend a reunion in November.

So far the previous classmates of then Fowey Comprehensive School have tracked down around 70 people from the year group – including one person who now lives in Australia.

  1. MEETING AGAIN: Three of the class of '73, Yvonne Milbank, Jackie Riddle and Julie Yeo, are looking to reunite with their old Fowey schoolfriends.

But say there is still a further 80 or more to trace.

The reunion will take place at the Britannia Inn, between Par and St Austell, on Friday, November 23, from 8pm until late. Tickets cost £5 – to include a pasty – and will be in aid of Mount Edgcumbe Hospice.

Yvonne Milbank of Tywardreath, who is helping to organise the event, said it will be a friendly gathering for people to meet and catch up.

"We are all 55 now," she said.

"When we arrived it was the first time the school became a comprehensive. We had all taken the 11 plus but we never knew if we had passed or not because it had all changed.

"Not many of us have moved away. One lady is coming from Australia. We are delighted.

"We are all very excited about it – we can't wait. It will also be great to raise the money for the hospice."

Another former classmate, Jimmy Husband, of Roche, said: "It is going to be really good to try to catch up with as many people as possible. We have had a great response from people, even someone from Germany is trying to come back for it.

"One thing I can remember is when we were in the third year we were based at the old Fowey Grammar School and at lunchtimes we just did what we wanted; played music, etc.

"We are not getting any younger. We do not know how many opportunities we will have to do this in the future.

"Now is the time to get everybody together and meet up."
