Police and coastguards yesterday searched the waters off Cornwall for a surfer who had been missing more than 36 hours. The 26-year-old, believed to be well-known local surfer Oliver Doy, was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, Falmouth Coastguard said yesterday. His driving licence was found on a beach, and his mobile phone was still in the Newquay area, but could not be found. Padstow rescue teams assisted police in the search, but by yesterday evening it had proved fruitless. Police were last night unavailable for an update. Friends and family of Mr Doy last night took to social networking site Twitter in an attempt to discover his whereabouts. In one message, Carve surfing magazine also appealed for information.

    “I am Oliver's friend.

He left 'Sailers' nightclub that early morning. Anyone who was there that evening, please bring forward any information you have.

Please see a better, close-up picture on the Twitter feed (google 'oliver doy missing'. It comes up pretty close to the top.)

Any info to the numbers given would be most appreciated.”
