Seventy patients recalled to Royal Cornwall Hospital
Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) in Truro has asked seventy female patients to return to the hospital for checks in relation to work carried out by obstetrician and gynaecologist Rob Jones.
Jones was responsible for more than 1500 outpatients at the hospital, which is now reviewing the files for each of those patients. The consultant, also known as Kenneth Jones, was suspended in May 2012 and subsequently removed his name from the medical register. He has since retired.
A report from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) criticised his surgical skills, said that he did not adequately adhere to guidelines and had inadequate record keeping.
Lezli Boswell of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) said in November last year "As the new Chief Executive I am very clear, I will not tolerate poor clinical practice at RCHT. Patients in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly deserve the very best care and we the Trust Board are committed to ensure that any lessons are learned."
