Severe weather warning
HEAVY rain and high winds were forecast for Cornwall today, prompting the Met Office to issue a severe weather warning. A yellow-graded weather warning, the lowest of its kind, is in place for the duchy from 6am on Thursday until 6am on Friday. A chief forecaster at the Met Office said earlier this week the South West was in for wet and windy weather and predicted wind speeds of up to 60mph. He said: "An active frontal system will move in from the west. Twenty to 40mm of rain seems likely, with up to 60mm possible. This will be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts up to 50 to 60mph. This is likely to bring down leaves which may lead to blocked drains."
