Shoppers flock in for final pre-Christmas late night shopping
SHOPPERS came out to support their local traders and pick up those last-minute festive gifts at a late night event in Penzance.
Traders kept their shops open well into the evening in a bid to welcome Christmas bargain hunters and give their cash registers a healthy boost.
"I think it is really important to have more events like this to bring more people in," said shopper Lyn Thompson.
"I would have done my shopping online if I couldn't come in for late night shopping but I really like supporting local shops."

Market Jew Street businesswoman Sandra Bailey believes a joint effort between all the shops in the town would provide the most benefits.
"We should all be doing late night shopping," said the Drift owner. "It is important to help the high street but if we are going to do it we need to do it properly or not at all.
"The day of the Christmas lights switch-on was really impressive and it should have been a catalyst to keep bringing people into the town."
Shops reported steady visitors during the evening, with many, like the Jean Barry Soap Company, Causewayhead, welcoming the extra sales.
"We have had a few people come in after 5pm," said shop assistant Lesley Rouse. "Each sale has been around £35 to £40 so it has been worth it."
Dick Cliffe, chairman of the Penzance Chamber of Commerce said a unified effort should be looked at.
"Given the limited investment and current austerity, it went well. This is something to build on in future years."
