Singing fund's first
THE FIRST Cornish recipient of a fund set up in memory of a young man from St Minver has been announced.
Chris Treglown was a talented singer who died tragically in a car accident in the village last year.
His family organised the Chris Treglown Foundation Fund, which provides £1,000 annually to assist young singers achieve their ambitions. The foundation has now awarded a grant to George Hylton Clark, 16, from Devoran near Truro.
Chris Treglown's mother Julia said auditions were held in April and the standard of the applicants was very high. "George's passion is singing and he began singing as a chorister at Truro Cathedral. He recently auditioned for the National Youth Choir and was offered a place, which involves him travelling to workshops.

"He is a music scholar at Truro School but next year will attend Truro College to continue his studies. He aspires to enter the Royal Academy of Music and train to become a professional singer,'' said Mrs Treglown.
The second award went to Sian Voller from Gloucestershire, who is a member of MJUK, the company founded and directed by professional singer and vocal coach Maria Jagusz, who was Chris's vocal coach.
Both of the award winners will be performing this summer on August 24 and 25 in a concert, the West End Comes To St Minver Church.
Mrs Treglown added: "The title is very appropriate as the talent of the performers is exceptional and last year's concert was a sell-out and so very well received by all.''
The proceeds of the concert will go towards the fund. More details can be found at www.christreglown.co.uk
"The support for the fund has been amazing and the trustees will be looking at how to develop its future and provide more opportunities for young singers to perform and gain confidence,'' she said.
Another fundraising evening will be held at the Waterfront Restaurant in Polzeath on August 28 when MJUK will perform.
