Sinking trawler saved by Penlee Lifeboat crew
A SINKING trawler caught in rough seas was saved by Penlee Lifeboat Station crew last month.
The 10-metre vessel sent out a mayday distress call after taking in water off the coast of Newlyn.
Falmouth Coastguard received the alert just after 5pm and Penlee’s team arrived around half an hour later.
Two volunteers immediately boarded the boat and began pumping the flooded fish room.

After around 30 minutes most of the sea water had been drained and the trawler was escorted back to the safety of Newlyn Harbour.
Patch Harvey, coxswain at Penlee, said: “The crew did a great job, especially getting the salvage pump and crew aboard quickly as the conditions weren’t ideal with fresh south-westerly wind a rough sea.
“Thankfully it all went well but it could have been a different story.”
