Small club enjoys success at championship
HAYLE Surf Life Saving Club have returned triumphant from the European Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Championships in Denmark.
They came in 5th out of 33 teams representing IRB crews from across Europe in a competition which tested skills through simulated rescues.
Hayle Surf Life Saving Club sent a small team of four, consisting of two men and two women.
Dave Parker, team manager, said: "With such a small team, it was necessary for the women to act as patients for the men. The men then returned the favour and the women had to rescue them, which made the event even more challenging.

"After a day of great racing the team came away with a gold medal and European title in the ladies' mass rescue and silver in the men's single pick-up. The club managed to achieve an overall position of fifth, an astonishing position for such a small team."
The club was due to compete at the national IRB championships at Bigbury on October 6.
