Snooker stars wow St Austell audience
SATURDAY evening saw twice world champion Mark Williams and currently ranked number 2 seed Mark Selby entertain an enthusiastic snooker audience at The Keay Theatre, St Austell.
The 'Welsh Potting Machine' and 'The Jester from Leicester' received rapturous applause from the snooker hungry spectators as they entered the purpose built arena.
In the first half of the evening's entertainment the players went head to head, playing six frames of snooker.
Selby took the first two frames with breaks of 35, 44 and 51 but the third frame saw the two players at their best.

Selby began the frame with a 64 break then Williams amazed the audience with a 76 clearance which made the score 2-1.
Although Selby made a 52 break in the fourth frame Williams won the frame with breaks of 41 and 30 making it 2-2.
Williams didn't get much of a look in on the fifth frame as Selby made breaks of 41 and 40; however, the final frame of the first session saw Williams making a 76 break taking the frame score to 3-3 at the interval.
At the start of the second half a frame of snooker was auctioned to the highest bidder in the audience who had the opportunity to choose which Mark to play.
Winner Jason Simmons from Camborne choose Mark Williams, but unfortunately for Jason Mark made a 98 break.
In the second session, playing five frames, Selby was in devastating form. He took all five frames with breaks of 33, 41, 58, 89, 95 and 112. Final scores were 8-3 to Selby.
Throughout the evening the two professional players displayed not only their enviable snooker skills on the green baize but their light hearted humour between the audience and themselves.
The evening ended by Selby and Williams meeting their fans for photographs and autographs.
Mark Selby commented to SnookerPlus promoter, David Grigg: "What a fabulous venue."
When asked how he felt the evening went he said: "I have rarely played at an exhibition where the audience has been so appreciative and respectful of the players whilst at the table."
Mark Williams joked to SnookerPlus promoter, Carole Grigg, as he came into the theatre: "I only came for my home-made Cornish pasty."
He went on to say: "I love coming back to Cornwall to this venue. I can't believe that it is nearly four years since I played John Higgins."
