Snuggles celebrates a flying start with Ofsed
A NURSERY in Bodmin has got off to a flying start after its first Ofsted inspection.
Snuggles Nursery in Market Street, which has been rated 'good' by Ofsted, is now eligible for government funding which allows it to offer free care to children aged between 2 and 4.
Snuggles, which has 46 children registered, opened in June and staff are thrilled with the high rating from an Ofsted inspector who visited last month.
Deputy manager Laura Saunders said: "We're all absolutely over the moon to be rated as a good nursery.
"It's the highest we could have been rated, because to become outstanding, we would have had to be judged on the extent of the progress the children were making, and obviously because we only opened recently, it was too soon to do that.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the report,'' she said.
The Ofsted inspector said staff liaise very well with other agencies to meet the learning needs of the children with special educational needs and disabilities, and provide close support to them and their families.
The report also noted children developed strong and warm relationships with staff as a result of the time spent with their key workers.
The report said: "Staff encourage babies' physical skills as they support them sitting up to see and handle resources. Young children develop their mobility as they eagerly manoeuvre and crawl towards toys and resources which interest them.
"Staff are highly proactive in meeting the needs of children and families who learn English as an additional language.
"Staff support children to learn about their community and environment during regular outings in the locality."
The report also said children develop self-confidence, communication skills and independence in preparation for school.
Snuggles Nursery is organising a charity baby fair at the Westbury Hotel on November 30 for Children's Hospice South West, and are seeking a Santa. If you can help, call 01208 368008.
