A soldier, serving in 216 Para Signal Squadron, has returned home from a demanding seven month tour of duty to Afghanistan, to lay wreaths in memory of lost comrades with his grandfather.

L Cpl Richard Waters, who is based in Colchester, Essex, served with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment at Kajaki, Helman Province, Southern Afghanistan during the tour.

Richard who previously lived with his parents in Praa Sands and attended Gulval and Mounts Bay schools, was welcomed home by all his family.

And, on his return to Cornwall for Remembrance Sunday, Mousehole Royal British Legion asked Richard and his grandfather, Roy Waters of Mousehole, to lay wreaths for the comrades lost who served with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment and the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry.

Roy saw active service with the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry during the Second World War.

The wreaths were laid at Mousehole War Memorial by the harbour. Richard and Roy were said to be delighted to be honoured with the role.

Richard has now returned back to Colchester with his wife, Natalie who is also in the REME, and daughter Abigail.
