Special film event as part of festival
AFTER taking the Tre Project – Rediscovering Cornwall and Isles of Scilly through Archive Film across the length and breadth of Cornwall over the past three years, local media company awen productions cic will be back on home turf at The Acorn Theatre, Penzance, on Monday as part of the Golowan festival.
Specially selected archive film material and new locally made films about Penzance and surrounding areas will be screened with an emphasis on Cornish culture and festivals.

Barbara Santi, director of awen productions, said: "We're really excited about this event where we will be bringing out some rare gems from South West Film and TV Archive's vaults as well as introducing some very special guests. Films of Cornwall will shed new light onto the region's rich cultural history.
"The earliest archive film we'll be screening is from 1904 – Scenes in the Cornish Riviera, a Great Western Railway promotional film. It's an amazing opportunity to see what Cornwall was like."

In keeping with the spirit of Golowan, the tailor-made show will also feature archive footage of festivals across Cornwall including the beautiful 1953 Alan Lomax film of Padstow's Obby Oss festival Oss Oss Wee Oss, recently re-released by the BFI.
Barbara added: "As well as screening this incredible film we are really pleased to have members from Padstow to share stories of their festival to our Penzance audience in a special Q&A. What is really wonderful is that the guests are direct descendants of the characters you will see in the film and who now take the role of teaser, rider, etc. It's a unique opportunity to share and compare each other's customs."
