Squirrels set to be released in 2013
FOUR male red squirrels and one female have been sent to Tresco island in Scilly, seen by both the island's lessee, Robert Dorrien Smith, and Prince Charles, as a "safe haven" for the endangered species.
Given on permanent loan by the British Wildlife Centre in Lingfield, Surrey, they were flown in by helicopter and immediately transferred in their cage.
"They are presently living in quarters close to the Abbey Garden," said curator, Mike Nelhams.
"We plan to release them in the spring.

"We are pleased that the squirrels have taken to our Pinus radiata cones which are plentiful on the island."
