OFFICIAL OPENING FOR NANPEAN ROVERS PAVILION:
Nanpean Rovers have almost completed the refurbishment of their Sports Pavilion at Victoria Bottoms after spending more than £70,000 of grant funding gained from SITA Cornwall Trust (£25,000), Clay Country Local Action (£25,194), the Football Foundation (£19,250) and St Stephen in Brannel Parish Council (£2,000).
These improvements will now provide excellent facilities to the football club and the local community. It is hoped that many new and existing local organisations will take advantage and use the facilities subject to a booking being arranged.
The club would welcome and encourage enquiries from any local organisations who may wish to use the brand new kitchen and room facilities. The upgraded heating system installed will now provide much more comfortable surroundings.
The pavilion will be officially opened by Stephen Gilbert MP this Saturday, February 11. Various guests including grant providers, local and parish councillors, local organisations and sponsors/supporters of the club have been invited to celebrate the occasion.
Anyone interested in booking the club's newly refurbished facilities should contact Alan Craddock on 01726 823543.
The refurbishment contract was carried out by Messrs W F Collings, tel 01726 76444.

Swimming
QUARTET ATTEND MEET:
St Austell Sharks swimmers Finn Branney, Oliver Long, Gracie Snell and Kay de Courcy spent a weekend at Millfield School in Somerset at the Amateur Swimming Association's southern Zonal long course swimming meet.
This event is aimed at swimmers above the regional qualifying level with swimmers competing from the south of England. It tested the resolve of the four St Austell club swimmers.
Finn Branney swam two events, the 400 metre Individual Medley in a time of 5:14:51 and 400 metre freestyle in a time of 4:39:13 both results are qualifying times for the regional youths in May.
Olive Long swam the 100 metre breaststroke in a time of 1:18:84 a regional qualifying time.
Gracie Snell swam the 100m butterfly event in a time of 1:14:00 again another regional qualifying time.
Kay de Courcy swam three events, the 200 and 400 metre Individual medley, making the senior finals in both events. She also swam the 200 metre breaststroke in a time of 2:52.98 a few seconds short of her personal best time.
Kay, who recently returned to St Austell Swimming Club, missed out by three seconds on a national time in the 400 metre Individual medley.
Alongside St Austell swimming coach Peter Long, a video recording of Kay's heat swim of the 400m Individual medley was analysed.
Kay then took on board Peter's advice on how to improve certain elements of the swim and in the finals which took place an hour later, she finished her swim more than three seconds faster than the heats to claim her first national qualifying time of the season in the 400 metre Individual medley.
Kay said: "Having a coach like Peter to analyse my swim from the heats and to improve in the finals is why I succeeded in claiming my first national qualification of this season."
All of the St Austell Shark swimmers who were at this event, also represent Cornwall in the county swimming squad.

Badminton
ST AUSTELL BAY BADMINTON CLUB LATEST:
It was a disappointing week for St Austell Bay as they suffered a draw and two losses; one of which was an exit from the handicapped Carlton Cup competition which they were defending champions.
The week started with a near white wash as the Combination 1 team missing key men players travelled to Liskeard in the Mid Cornwall Combination League 1.
Rose Willis and James Whetter played well in a battling three ender against the Liskeard No.1 pairing to secure the one game for St Austell as they lost 8-1 overall.
Liskeard again provided the opposition for top of the table St Austell Men's 2 Team at one of the toughest venues in the league; Liskeard Town Hall and its one court roll out matt.
The match ended in 3-3 draw with Jeremy Roberts playing the captain's role in securing his three games to ensure the points were shared and that St Austell remained top of the league.
Cornwall Youth Badminton proved to be too strong for St Austell as they secured the points need to progress to the next round of the handicapped Carlton Cup.
Junior Football
Charlestown Pirates 1, Wendron 6:
Charlestown Pirates were at home to Wendron in the quarter-final of the County Cup and were outplayed by the Kernow Premier side who progressed to the semis after a comfortable 6-1 win.
Charlestown started poorly and seemed nervous from the off, no one seemed comfortable on the ball and there were no challenges allowing Wendron to get 3-0 up at the break.
The second half saw Pirates begin to play to their ability, they had a lot of the ball during the opening quarter of the second period and were rewarded when a Gordon Douglas header reduced the deficient to 3-1.
They were then unlucky with another couple of close efforts before Wendron killed the game off with their fourth and added to their tally twice more in the final ten minutes.
