St Austell man dies in tree fall
A ST Austell man has died after falling from a tree, police have confirmed.
The man, believed to be in his late 50s, is thought to have been cutting branches from a tree on Long Park Way, Bethel when he fell and hit the ground on Sunday (Jan 6) at about 12.30pm.
St Austell police inspector Stuart Gibbons said it appears the man hit the ground head first and sustained "traumatic" injuries.
The man was airlifted by a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose helicopter to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Mr Gibbons said due to the circumstances the force was currently carrying out an investigation as a matter of course.
He added: "It appears to have been a very tragic accident."
