St Dennis villagers asked to spend incinerator cash
VILLAGERS who will be living in the shadow of the giant incinerator are being asked how a £4.3 million community pot should be spent.
The money for St Dennis, Treviscoe and Nanpean, will come from waste giant Sita and Cornwall Council.
There will be four community funds available, which will include a grant – known as the construction phase fund – of £200,000 a year for the next three years while the incinerator is under construction.
Once the plant is up and running it will be replaced with a community fund of approximately £100,000 a year for the 30-year period of the contract.

A further £10,000 per year will pay for independent soil and air-testing until the contract ends.
There is also a £15,000 per year fund available for education bursaries and grants for local students over the same period.
An exhibition was held at Treviscoe Institute and Community Centre on Monday to ask residents what projects they want the cash spent on and how they could be involved.
A Cornwall Council spokesman said: "The community will benefit from the construction fund throughout the construction period of the centre.
"When the centre commences operation the construction fund will be replaced by the community fund. The value of this will depend on the amount of electricity exported from the centre.
"Once the education grant, monitoring grant and community fund are payable, the community will be able to benefit from these funds until the Integrated Waste Management Contract under which the centre operates ends."
St Dennis Cornwall councillor Fred Greenslade said: "I hope that residents will come along and give their views on the uses of these funds at this early stage. It is important the local people help shape these funds and get involved."
Further exhibitions will be held on Thursday, September 19, at the function room, Nanpean Football Club and on Tuesday, September 24, in the Hendra Room at ClayTAWC Community Centre, St Dennis.
