St Ives Bay pride of county
ST IVES Bay Swimming Club have retained the Cornwall Junior Inter Club Championship after an exciting finish to the season at a gala in Bodmin.
This is the third time the St Ives youngsters have clinched top position since gaining promotion from division two in 2009.
Contested by teams aged from nine to 12, the action at this competition always comes fast and furious. All Cornish clubs take part, teams spread evenly across two divisions, the split dependent on their previous season's finishing spot.
With an annual promotion and relegation system ensuring no club can rely on past reputation, what makes things exciting is that club honour is always at stake.

St Ives's youngest swimmers rose to the occasion, the nine-year-olds calmly coping alongside older team mates who had experienced the competition before.
The action was spread over 48 races, 19 of which were won outright by St Ives swimmers.
Events comprised a mixture of individual and sprint relays, clubs accumulating points dependent on finishing places – six points for first, all the way down to one point for sixth.
Competing clubs were allocated the same lane draw for the competition and as points totted up it became clear the contest would be settled by a three way tussle featuring St Ives Bay, out on the wing in lane six; Penzance in lane1; and Truro City in lane 4.
At the close, everyone knew the result would be close, St Ives fans wondering just how much influence a couple of race disqualifications would affect them, caused by some easily forgivable over exuberance during relay handovers.
But as finishing positions were read out in ascending order, St Ives Bay was the last name to be called.
